The centre represents the continuity of care that Ascires Grupo Biomédico has been providing for more than 45 years
Valencia, 18 May 2026.- A centre of medical excellence with the latest technology and unique diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in Spain, where the humanisation of care processes is a priority. These are the hallmarks of the new Hospital Ascires Valencia, which represents the continuation of the healthcare activity that Ascires Grupo Biomédico has been developing for over 45 years.
To date, the centre has involved an investment of €125 million, of which more than €40 million has been allocated to advanced technological equipment. “We have concentrated all technological potential in a single space to transform conventional treatments and apply minimally invasive, safe and highly precise techniques that provide better outcomes and shorten recovery times,” states Lorena Saus, CEO of Ascires.
After launching Outpatient Clinics, Diagnostic Imaging, Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy services last November, all remaining services have been operational since this week, including Inpatient Care, Operating Theatres, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Emergency Department, among others. The centre integrates the main medical specialties and works with most insurance companies, addressing all types of diagnoses and treatments.
First advanced-precision hybrid operating theatre in Europe
With a total surface area of 30,000 m² across 10 floors (7 above ground and 3 basement levels), Hospital Ascires has implemented the first advanced-precision hybrid operating theatre in Europe, equipped with comprehensive high-end imaging technology to monitor, with maximum accuracy, the progress and outcome of each procedure without leaving the operating theatre.
A 3-Tesla magnetic resonance scanner, a computed tomography (CT) scanner, a robotic imaging system for interventional radiology, intraoperative nuclear medicine equipment, and a digitally integrated surgical table form part of this operating theatre, where surgical times are reduced, the risk of infection is minimised, and an entirely new level of precision is achieved.
State-of-the-art technology for minimally invasive procedures
In recent years, Ascires Medical Directorate leaders have travelled to various countries (including the United States, Germany, China, France and Italy) to identify new technologies not available in Spain, with the aim of incorporating them into the new hospital.
The centre is focused on the prevention, prediction and prognosis of diseases, as well as on the most advanced and minimally invasive treatments. “Our aim is to diagnose and treat with maximum precision and efficiency, minimising hospital stay and using monitoring systems to facilitate patient recovery at home,” explains the hospital’s Medical Director, Dr Alicia Maceira.
“We also use advanced AI tools in all processes where scientific evidence demonstrates added value, from more accurate and earlier diagnoses to the personalisation and optimisation of treatments,” states CEO Lorena Saus.
Medical team led by national and international leaders
In addition to covering the main clinical and surgical specialties, Hospital Ascires includes dedicated floors for Cardiovascular and Thoracic Medicine; Neurosciences; Nuclear Medicine; Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology; and Oncology, all multidisciplinary in nature and led by nationally and internationally recognised specialists.
The Neurosciences area is headed by Canadian neurosurgeon Dr Andrés Lozano, a pioneer in internationally groundbreaking techniques. This area comprises neurologists, neurosurgeons and neuroradiologists with the highest level of specialisation in various neurological disorders, from neurodegenerative diseases—such as Parkinson’s disease and dementias—to epilepsy, headaches, and neuromuscular or spinal disorders. The Neurosciences team performs high-precision neurosurgery, both minimally invasive procedures with short hospital stays and complex surgeries, always guided by the latest intraoperative imaging technology.
The Cardiovascular and Thoracic area is led by Dr Alicia Maceira, who is also the hospital’s Medical Director and a prominent cardiologist and researcher. This area includes an Integrated Cardiology Service, composed of cardiologists specialised in different branches working in an integrated and coordinated manner: Clinical Cardiology, Cardiovascular Imaging (the only unit in Spain with triple European accreditation in cardiac magnetic resonance and also certified in cardiac CT and echocardiography), and Interventional Cardiology laboratories (for minimally invasive percutaneous coronary and valvular procedures) and Electrophysiology laboratories (for the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias). The area is complemented by Vascular Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, and Respiratory Medicine and Thoracic Surgery services.
The Clinical Medical Director of Hospital Ascires, Dr José Ferrer Rebolleda, leads the Nuclear Medicine area, which is equipped with the most advanced digital PET-CT and SPECT-CT scanners and its own Radiopharmacy Unit. Dr Ferrer, with more than 25 years of clinical experience, is also President of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging of Valencia and Murcia.
The Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology area is headed by Dr José Lamo de Espinosa, a specialist in hip surgery and musculoskeletal tumours, with training and experience in national and international hospitals such as Mount Sinai Hospital (Toronto). This area provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary and highly specialised care for the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and disorders.
The Oncology area includes a Day Hospital and all currently available cancer treatments, including Radiation Oncology with a state-of-the-art linear accelerator. This area offers a comprehensive approach to oncology patients, with services including nutrition, physical exercise, cardio-oncology and neuro-oncology, coordinated by Dr Ana Blasco.
Smart, fully accessible building with a therapeutic garden
The building housing Hospital Ascires will be 100% accessible. In its construction and design, various patient associations and the Office of the Ombudsperson for Persons with Disabilities in Valencia—Gemma Mas—have participated, with the aim of providing maximum comfort for all individuals, including those with physical, sensory or intellectual disabilities. These include the Alzheimer’s Family Association of Valencia (AFAV), Parkinson’s Foundation Valencia, ALCE Epilepsy, and AVADO (people with a stoma). , Latiendo Juntos, the Valencian Association of Anticoagulated Patients (AVAAC), ONCE, COCEMFE (people with physical and organic disabilities), and the Federation of Associations for the Integration of Deaf People in the Valencian Community – HELIX, are some of the organisations that have left their mark on the hospital centre.
The humanisation of spaces and care processes, as well as harmonious integration with the environment, has been another priority in the construction of the hospital, which incorporates the highest standards of sustainability and energy efficiency. The centre also features a therapeutic garden with a biophilic design to enhance the benefits of nature for individuals. It includes rest areas, sensory gardens and an outdoor rehabilitation area.
Furthermore, within the framework of the Ascires / Fundación QUAES Chair at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), students from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Sant Carles have developed the Words of Relief project, which incorporates into the hospital the artistic work they have created. This is an initiative aimed at humanising therapeutic spaces and contributing to reflection on the points of intersection between art and health.
Boost to biomedical innovation
The opening of the hospital represents a new boost to the biomedical research carried out by the group through AsciresLab and Fundación QUAES, where specialists and biomedical engineers work together on the development of research projects and proprietary biomarkers.
In this work, the two Ascires university chairs also play a very active role: one at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), specialising in Biomedical Engineering and Precision Medicine, and another at the University of Barcelona (UB), focused on Metabolic Therapy (theragnostics) for the treatment of certain types of metastatic cancer.
