Valencia, 26 September 2025 – The Cardiology Department at Ascires Grupo Biomédico, with a team of 12 cardiologists, has positioned itself among Europe’s leading centres in Cardiovascular Imaging. The European Society of Cardiology has recently renewed Ascires’ triple accreditation, recognising its diagnostic precision across all cardiac MRI modalities (general, stress and congenital heart disease).
Cardiac MRI is the most advanced imaging technique for the clinical assessment of the heart, whose World Heart Day is celebrated on 29 September.
Alongside Ascires Grupo Biomédico, only eight other European centres — located in the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands — hold this triple accreditation, which certifies compliance with the highest European standards in quality, safety, training and clinical practice in cardiac MRI.
Ascires Grupo Biomédico was the first centre in Spain to achieve this milestone five years ago. Following the renewal of this accreditation, it remains the only Spanish centre with triple accreditation and continues to rank among the few centres in Europe to reach this level of excellence.

This recognition represents a level of quality that brings significant benefits to patients. Firstly, it guarantees greater diagnostic precision, as the centre uses “advanced techniques that improve the detection of heart failure, ischaemic heart disease, cardiotoxicity, cardiomyopathies and valvular heart disease,” explains Dra. Alicia Maceira, Head of the Cardiology Department and Medical Director of Ascires Grupo Biomédico
Alongside its high diagnostic precision, another clear advantage of cardiac MRI is that it is a non-invasive, radiation-free test for patients. “It also helps to better identify higher-risk patients and select the most appropriate treatment in each case,” explains Dra. Alicia Maceira.
According to data from the Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE), deaths caused by circulatory system diseases fell by 2.4% in 2024, although they remain the leading cause of death in men and the second leading cause in women.
Experts highlight healthy lifestyle habits and regular cardiac check-ups as two fundamental pillars in the prevention of heart disease.
Controlling risk factors — including a sedentary lifestyle, smoking, hypertension, high cholesterol and obesity — is always essential. However, there are certain patient profiles and stages of life in which cardiac check-ups become even more important in order to anticipate cardiovascular problems.
“Certain population groups, such as relatives of patients with heart disease or patients with multiple cardiovascular risk factors and associated conditions, may present complex risk patterns and require closer follow-up,” explains Dra. Alicia Maceira.
European-accredited centres such as Ascires Grupo Biomédico have certified specialists qualified to interpret diagnostic tests, as well as highly trained staff dedicated to performing these studies.
“Our cardiologists hold the highest individual certifications from the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (European Society of Cardiology) in cardiac MRI, cardiac CT and echocardiography. In addition, we carry out extensive research activity through participation in international studies and continuous training programmes,” explains Dra. Alicia Maceira.
Ischaemic heart disease, sports cardiology and heart failure are among the areas in which the Ascires team has focused its latest scientific research.

Ascires Grupo Biomédico, currently finalising the launch of its first hospital in Valencia, is a pioneering biomedical group in Spain in the fields of Medical Imaging, Nuclear Medicine, Medical Genetics and Image-Guided Radiation Oncology.
The group provides services to both public and private hospitals, as well as through its own network of Biomedical Clinics across the Valencian Community and Catalonia.
With more than 45 years of experience and a team of over 600 professionals, Ascires focuses its activity on diagnosis and treatment, reinvesting an average of 20% of its annual profits into research, development and innovation (R&D&I).
Ascires Grupo Biomédico is focused on personalised precision medicine through the development of proprietary artificial intelligence biomarkers and diagnostic algorithms.
