Valencia, 17 October 2025 – A team of internationally recognised medical specialists, leaders in their respective fields, is involved in the development and organisation of the main clinical areas that will form part of the new Ascires Hospital Valencia, set to open in Valencia at the end of the year.
It is a leading team in medical innovation, made up of specialists with deep expertise in their respective fields and a strong international presence in both clinical practice and research activity.
This group of experts will help maximise the potential of the cutting-edge technology with which the new hospital is equipped. The hospital’s Medical Director is Dra. Alicia Maceira, a renowned cardiologist, researcher and highly active member of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). Dr. Maceira has led the Medical Directorate of Ascires Grupo Biomédico since 2017.

The Neurosciences Department will be led by Dr. Andrés Lozano and coordinated by Dr. Antonio Gutiérrez.
Professor at the University of Toronto and Director of the Neurosurgery Department at the University Health Network — Canada’s largest medical research centre — Dr. Andrés Lozano is the world’s most cited neurosurgeon in the field of Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders.
Internationally recognised for his work in deep brain stimulation and ultrasound-based treatments (Neuro-HIFU), he has mapped the brain’s cortical and subcortical circuits and pioneered innovative therapies for Parkinson’s disease, depression, Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders.

Meanwhile, Dr. Antonio Gutiérrez is one of the pioneers of the Neuro-HIFU technique in Spain. He is also an expert in other advanced neurosurgical techniques, such as deep brain stimulation, and carries out significant research activity in cutting-edge technologies including artificial intelligence and virtual imaging applied to diagnosis and treatment.

The Cardiovascular Department at Ascires Hospital Valencia will bring together all areas of cardiology within a multidisciplinary team led by Dra. Alicia Maceiracardiologists specialised in the different fields of cardiology. Specialists in Cardiac Imaging, Haemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology, Electrophysiology, Sports Cardiology and Vascular Surgery will work in an integrated and coordinated way to provide comprehensive patient care.
In the field of Sports Cardiology, Ascires Grupo Biomédico is supported by Dra. Araceli Boraita as Medical Advisor. A specialist in Cardiology and Sports Medicine, Dr. Boraita led the Sports Cardiology Department at the Spanish Sports Council for almost three decades and served as cardiologist to Spanish Olympic and Paralympic athletes from Barcelona ’92 to Tokyo ’20.
She is also a leading national authority on sudden cardiac death in athletes, having pioneered both the registry of these cases and research into their prevention.
