With 18 years of experience in Thoracic Surgery Departments across hospitals in the Valencian Community, Dr Martínez is a thoracic surgeon within the Thoracic Surgery Department at Ascires Hospital.
He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the International Society of Sympathetic Surgery since 2025 and is also a member of the Grup d’Investigació i Divulgació Oncològica, the European Society of Thoracic Surgery, the Spanish Society of Thoracic Surgery, the Valencian Society of Pulmonology, and the Spanish Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery.
He has received 11 awards from different organisations in recognition of his scientific presentations and was awarded the highest distinction — Outstanding “Cum Laude” with Extraordinary Doctorate Award — for his doctoral thesis at the University of Valencia.
He has authored more than 65 scientific publications and presented over 120 papers at national and international congresses, both peer-reviewed and invited presentations. He is also author and co-author of educational publications, teaching materials, as well as national guidelines and consensus documents in thoracic surgery.
Between 2018 and 2023, he served as Coordinator of the Scientific Committee of the Sociedad Española de Cirugía Torácica. Since 2021, he has been an editor of the journal Cirugía Española and acts as a reviewer for multiple leading national and international scientific publications.
He is also actively involved in teaching at both undergraduate level — in the field of Respiratory Medicine and Surgery — and postgraduate level, with a particular focus on airway techniques and minimally invasive surgery. He is Director of the Master’s Degree in Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery.
In addition, he is a member of eight active national and international research groups, serving as principal investigator in three of them.
