Dr Mikel San Julián Aranguren is a consultant in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology with extensive clinical, research and academic experience in musculoskeletal conditions. His main areas of expertise are bone and musculoskeletal tumours and paediatric orthopaedics, fields in which he has extensive experience in the diagnosis, surgical treatment and follow-up of patients with complex conditions.
He graduated in Medicine from the University of Navarra and obtained his PhD in Medicine in 1994.
Throughout his career, he has completed specialist training placements at internationally renowned centres including the Karolinska Institute (Stockholm), Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York), Tata Memorial Hospital (Mumbai) and Leiden University Medical Center (The Netherlands), further expanding his expertise in the management of bone tumours and advanced orthopaedic oncological surgery techniques.
In the field of research, he maintains a strong scientific activity, with an outstanding academic record that includes 139 publications in scientific journals, 5 books, 61 book chapters and more than 400 contributions to scientific congresses. He has also participated in research projects and clinical trials focused on the development of new therapeutic strategies in musculoskeletal oncology.
His professional career combines clinical practice with research and academic activity, participating in educational programmes, supervising academic work and contributing to continuing medical education initiatives. Throughout his career, he has received several awards and professional distinctions in recognition of his contribution to the development of orthopaedic surgery and traumatology.
Within the field of Paediatric Orthopaedics, Dr San Julián treats a wide range of conditions, including limb length discrepancies and spinal deformities, pectus excavatum and pectus carinatum, congenital conditions, paediatric hip disorders such as Perthes’ disease, hip dysplasia and slipped capital femoral epiphysis, paediatric knee conditions and axial deformities such as genu valgum and genu varum, as well as paediatric foot disorders including flat foot, cavus foot and clubfoot, in addition to paediatric trauma and its sequelae..
He is also a specialist in the treatment of benign and malignant musculoskeletal tumours affecting both bone and soft tissue.
His clinical approach is based on providing comprehensive, personalised and evidence-based care, particularly in the treatment of musculoskeletal tumours and the management of orthopaedic conditions in paediatric patients.
