ServiciosOphthalmology

At the Ophthalmology Department of Hospital Ascires Valencia, we provide comprehensive care for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions in both children and adults.

Comprehensive eye examinations

Vision changes naturally with age, which is why we recommend having a comprehensive eye examination every year, particularly from the age of 40 onwards.

At Hospital Ascires Valencia, a comprehensive eye examination includes:

  • Visual acuity assessment.
  • Refraction assessment, when required, carried out by our Optometry team.
  • Measurement of intraocular pressure.
  • Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) assessment of the optic nerve (recommended from the age of 40).
  • Comprehensive retinal examination (fundus examination), when clinically indicated.

“A comprehensive eye examination is not only about helping you see better; it also enables the early detection of eye conditions that can develop without causing symptoms.” – Dr Miguel Ángel Serra, Consultant Ophthalmologist at Ascires

Our services

Ophthalmology in Valencia

Early diagnosis of glaucoma

During the annual eye examination, we carry out additional tests for the early detection of glaucoma, especially in patients over 40 years of age, and earlier if there is a family history.

Through measurement of intraocular pressure, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and visual field testing, we can detect changes before visual symptoms appear and help prevent irreversible and progressive vision loss.

Advanced treatments in Valencia

Cataract surgery

At Hospital Ascires Valencia, we have access to the most advanced medical technology for cataract surgery.

Our operating theatre is equipped with next-generation phacoemulsification systems, allowing us to replace the clouded lens with a state-of-the-art intraocular lens, ensuring maximum safety and a faster visual recovery for the patient.

Presbyopia correction

At Hospital Ascires Valencia, we offer personalised solutions for presbyopia, allowing us to adapt to each person’s visual needs and lifestyle.

We provide advanced surgical options for the correction of presbyopia through the implantation of premium intraocular lenses.

Diabetic patients

Diabetes is the main risk factor for diabetic retinopathy, a retinal complication that is usually asymptomatic in its early stages.

For our diabetic patients, we use wide-field retinal imaging systems that provide high-resolution images with extensive retinal coverage, allowing us to detect early changes such as microaneurysms, haemorrhages, exudates or macular oedema.

If you are a diabetic patient, we recommend annual ophthalmological check-ups, as it is estimated that around 30% of people with diabetes develop some form of retinal involvement.

At Ascires Valencia, we can detect these changes before symptoms appear and help prevent vision loss.

Paediatric ophthalmology

Eye examinations during childhood are essential for detecting problems which, if treated early, can prevent permanent effects on visual development. Early detection can make a decisive difference to a child’s development, learning and future wellbeing.

At Hospital Ascires, we carry out specific eye examinations to detect children’s visual health problems such as refractive errors, strabismus and amblyopia (lazy eye). Early detection is key, especially in cases of amblyopia.

Detection before the age of 6-8 years is essential, as after this age it is very likely that the condition can no longer be corrected and amblyopia may become permanent.

In addition, we recommend that all paediatric examinations are carried out by an ophthalmology specialist in order to use cycloplegic eye drops, which allow us to assess the child’s true refractive error by temporarily removing the eye’s focusing ability and accurately determining the prescription.
