José Mª Lamo de Espinosa is a physician specialised in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, with more than 15 years of experience in hip surgery and limb tumour surgery. He trained at the University of Navarra, where he also obtained his PhD, receiving the Extraordinary Doctorate Award in 2017 for his work in the field of advanced cell therapy. He currently serves as Director of the Department of Surgical Specialties at the Catholic University of Valencia, which allows him to remain involved in teaching and training, areas to which he has been committed since his years as an associate professor at the University of Navarra.

He is also one of the ten Spanish members of the European Musculoskeletal Oncology Society (EMSOS) (data from 2024), secretary and future president of the Bone and Joint Infection Section of SECOT, as well as secretary and future president of the Spanish Association for Research in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (INVESCOT).

He has carried out his clinical work in different centres, becoming Head of the Hip Surgery Unit for 10 years, performing more than 1,200 surgeries.

He furthered his training at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto and at specialised hip surgery centres in Belgium, where he acquired extensive experience in rapid recovery surgery and robotic surgery. He specialises in hip prostheses, complex hip revision surgery, and the comprehensive treatment of sarcomas, metastases and benign tumours.

His research activity includes two six-year research periods (Sexenios) recognised by ANECA; he has been principal investigator in three multicentre clinical trials in advanced cell therapy, and is the author of more than 50 articles in international scientific journals, more than 120 lectures and oral presentations at national and international congresses, as well as 13 book chapters on hip surgery, oncological surgery and advanced cell therapy.

Passionate about sport, he has been part of the medical services of CA Osasuna for five seasons, Osasuna Magna XOTA (futsal) for 14 years, and currently collaborates with Alzira Futsal, where he continues to carry out his medical work.
