
Uro-Oncology Specialist
Dr. José Luis Domínguez-Escrig is a specialist in Urology, with a distinguished clinical and research career in uro-oncology, particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of bladder cancer and upper urinary tract cancer. He currently serves as Head of Urology at Ascires, where he leads both clinical and research activities.
He obtained his Medical Degree (MD) in Valencia in 1994 and continued his postgraduate training in the United Kingdom. After completing his specialist training, he was awarded the Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MRCS) in 2001, and later the Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Urology (FRCS Urol) in 2009, consolidating his career in oncological urology.
Between 2004 and 2006, he conducted research at the Northern Institute for Cancer Research at Newcastle University, where he developed a research project focused on new therapeutic strategies in urological cancer. As a result of this work, he presented his doctoral thesis titled “Tyrosine Kinase and Farnesyltransferase Inhibitors: Potential Selective Targeted Therapy in Bladder Cancer”, obtaining his PhD in Medicine in 2006.
In the scientific field, he has an outstanding research record with more than 130 publications in national and international journals. He also serves as a reviewer for specialized journals, including Actas Urológicas Españolas, BJU International, Urologic Oncology, European Urology Focus, and The Journal of Urology. In addition, he has presented his research at numerous international scientific conferences, including AACR, AUA, EAU, BAUS, SIU, and AEU.
His research activity focuses on the development of new therapeutic strategies in uro-oncology, and he has participated as principal investigator in clinical trials related to bladder cancer and prostate cancer, as well as in translational research projects aimed at improving personalized oncological treatments.
Dr. José Luís Domínguez is an expert in Focal Therapy with Irreversible Electroporation (IRE) and serves as a mentor for Angiodynamics in Europe and South America in this technique. He is also a founding member of the Spanish Focal Therapy Group (getFocal).
He maintains an active role in international scientific societies and organizations. He is a member of the panel responsible for drafting the European Urology Guidelines for Bladder Cancer and Upper Urinary Tract Cancer, a member of the CUETO Group, a Professor at the European School of Urology, and the Spanish Delegate to the European Board of Urology (EBU), where he also serves on the examination committee. In addition, since 2004 he has been Secretary of the Executive Council of the EBU.
His main clinical areas of interest include urothelial carcinoma of the bladder and upper urinary tract, as well as the development and evaluation of focal therapies in uro-oncology, with the aim of providing personalized treatments based on the latest advances in oncological medicine
