In 2001, we became the first center in Spain to implement Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), revolutionizing radiation delivery by reducing side effects, decreasing the number of sessions, and increasing radiation dose directly to the tumor.
We were also pioneers in Spain in surface-guided radiotherapy using the RT Vision® system, which enhances treatment precision through millimeter-accurate positioning and real-time patient motion monitoring.
The results: improved patient quality of life and increased cure rates.

Radiotherapy is a localized, non-invasive treatment used to treat many types of cancer, either alone or in combination with other therapies. Radiation works by destroying cancer cells or slowing their growth, helping to eliminate tumors.
By damaging the genetic structure of malignant cells, we prevent them from replicating, leading to cell death and a tumor response to treatment. This response does not occur immediately; it may take days or even weeks after treatment, which is why follow-up is necessary to evaluate effectiveness.
When used at low doses, radiotherapy does not have a lethal effect on cells but produces anti-inflammatory or antiproliferative effects, which can be very useful in certain benign conditions.
Side effects are increasingly rare and vary depending on the patient, tumor type, location, radiation dose, technique, and overall health.
It is important to note that radiotherapy is a localized treatment, so potential side effects are limited to the treated area. In general, side effects can be classified as:
Early side effects: occur during the first 3 months of treatment
Late side effects: occur after the initial months of treatment
If you have concerns about side effects, we recommend discussing them with your radiation oncologist, who can provide information based on your medical history.
Each treatment is individualized for the patient. It may range from a single session to approximately 30 sessions, depending on the condition and type of treatment.
Each session typically takes 10 to 30 minutes, although the actual radiation delivery lasts less than 2–3 minutes. The remaining time is used for patient positioning and verification, which is crucial for the precision and accuracy of the treatment.
Radiotherapy is a painless, minimally invasive treatment, and patients cannot feel the radiation on their body.
Due to the highly personalized nature of treatments and depending on the treatment area, the specialist doctor and nursing team will provide guidance on the necessary care. This may include nutritional, skin, and hygiene recommendations, among others. Following these instructions is essential for proper treatment tolerance.
