It is recommended that all asymptomatic women start having mammograms from the age of 40–45. Mammography is not recommended for women under 35 due to breast tissue density. In younger women, when the breast tissue is very dense, it cannot be clearly examined. Therefore, an alternative test is ultrasound.
The compression applied by the plates may cause some discomfort during the test. Many factors influence whether a mammogram is painful, such as breast type or the phase of your menstrual cycle.
With the advanced mammography systems at Ascires Hospital, the pressure applied to the breast is automatically adjusted according to its size and density. The equipment itself applies the necessary compression and stops at the optimal moment to obtain high-quality images.
During pregnancy, it is important to avoid diagnostic tests involving radiation. However, if it is necessary to perform a mammogram, we protect the foetus from radiation using a lead apron. An alternative test can be breast ultrasound, which is a radiation-free imaging method with no risk during pregnancy.
A mammogram is a high-definition, low-radiation radiological test performed to detect breast cancer, monitor patients who have had breast cancer, prevent its occurrence (screening), or diagnose other breast-related conditions.
Ascires has the ENS certification with the MEDIA category for its medical centers in the Valencian Community and Madrid.
