Dr Andrés Lozano is a Canadian neurosurgeon — although with Spanish roots. He is a Professor at the University of Toronto and Head of the Division of Neurosurgery at the University Health Network, the largest medical research centre in Canada, which integrates the scientific work carried out in the country’s leading hospitals. He is also Director of the Neuroscience Area at Ascires.

Dr Lozano is internationally known for his work in Deep Brain Stimulation and Neuro-HIFU. The team he leads has mapped the cortical and subcortical circuits of the brain and has driven innovative therapies to address Parkinson’s disease, depression, Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders.

Author of around 800 scientific publications, he is the most cited neurosurgeon in the world (Clarivate). He is especially proud of the doctoral students and medical residents he has supervised, many of whom have become international experts in their respective fields.

Dr Lozano has received numerous recognitions, including the Olivecrona Medal, the Salk Award and the Dandy Medal. He has also been elected a member of the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. He has also received the Order of Spain and has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada.
